Advancing Opportunities for Diversity and Inclusion in the Financial Services Industry
The purpose of the Financial Planner Education Diversity Empowerment Corporation (FPEDEC) is charitable and is a benefit to the government by providing support for public and private institutions of higher education with financial planner programs with the goal of increasing diversity in the financial planning profession.
The needs that FPEDEC will address are:
- Institutional support for creating and improving diversity in their financial planner
curriculum. - Financial planner instructor support to ensure that faculty are prepared for the
broad diversity in their classrooms - Supporting financial planning faculty to ensure they are up-to-date with the
educational learning objectives the financial planning profession requires. - Assisting financial planning students with grants and scholarships through the
colleges or directly. - Encouraging publishers to guarantee that their financial planner textbooks are
written to reflect the diverse population of the United States.
One example of the institutions and programs that will be supported is the registered Certified Financial Planner (CFP) program at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and the UMUC undergraduate minor in Personal Financial Planning.
