The Financial Planner Education Diversity Empowerment Corporation (FPEDEC) Awards its First Scholarships

Alexandria, VA, December 2018: The Financial Planner Education Diversity Empowerment Corporation (FPEDEC), is a new 501(C)(3) organization that advances inclusion and diversity in the financial services. FPEDEC currently partners with University of Maryland, University College (UMUC) Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Program to pilot a variety of initiatives. UMUC is deemed to be a Minority Serving Institution (MIS) with an ethnically diverse student body of about 50 percent. FPEDEC has awarded three scholarships to UMUC CFP students to attend the CFP Board Registered Programs Conference. The CFP Registered Programs conference brings together faculty and program directors from institutions around the country that deliver professional financial planning education and assist individuals in pursuing CFP® certification. For the first time, the 2019 Registered Programs Conference will include a student track with sessions for prospective and current registered program students, as well as networking opportunities with financial firms.

In October 2018 an announcement about the Financial Planning Association National Capital Area’s (FPA NCAs) Metro Washington Financial Planning day was made to all UMUC CFP Students. Four UMUC CFP students attended Metro Washington Financial Planning Day. Based on the interest they demonstrated, FPEDEC awarded them with scholarships to attend the student track of the CFP Registered Programs Conference.
